The Crosby brothers Colin and Ralph, of Hastings Angling Centre, dominated the National Federation of Sea Anglers (Southern Division) beach championship held at Pevensey Bay.
Colin led the field of 43 with 31 fish for 626cm with his catch consisting of whiting, pout, flounders and rockling.
Ralph also had 31 fish but his went 580cm. Both are members of Hastings and St Leonards club.
Third was Neville Breading, from Haywards Heath Sea Angling Club, who had 30 fish for 576cm, and fourth was Sam Sampson, of Palace Pier, with 29 fish for 544cm.
These four qualify for the next national final on a date and venue to be arranged.
The longest fish was a bass of 66cm which was estimated at 4lb and returned alive. This was caught by Kevin Skippings, of Haywards Heath, and the best flat a flounder of 29cm by Lee Durrent, of Portsmouth.
The team winners were Hastings and St Leonards (Colin and Ralph Crosby, Mark Hinxsman, Tim Relf) with 2124cm, and second was Worthing Prime (Mike Perfect, Alan Gilbert, Chris Snow and Paul Stevens) with 1578cm. The top woman was Janet Cruttenden, of Hastings and St Leonards, who had 16 fish for 289cm.
They thought they would get eels but at Goring beach members of Bognor Surfcasters found some bass including a beauty of 9lb 12oz by Brian Babbage.
The six hour match was on the same tide as members of Paupersis. Babbage also had three rockling and won with 10lb 8oz.
Derek Hardman had a bass of 2lb 6oz and three rockling for 3lb 2oz, Steve Middleton two eels for 2lb 10oz, while Dave Martin had a dogfish and two rockling for 2lb 2oz. John Blewett's 14oz flounder was the best flat fish.
On Sunday 23, Surfcasters members will be on West Worthing beach from 9am to 2 am.
Brian Meads, with 2lb 1oz, including a 7 1/2oz flounder, won the Pevensey Bay Aqua club's midweek three hour match fished by 25. Ian Hopper had 1lb 9oz, Dick Penny 1lb 3 1/2oz and Gerald Sargeant 1lb 3 1/4oz. The best round was Alan Longley's 1lb 1oz eel and other species caught were pout, whiting and rockling.
Brian Vitler completed a hat-trick in Bexhill's four hour beach match fished by 12 on Saturday. He had top bag (3lb 9oz), best round fish (silver eel of 1lb 1 1/2oz and another of 1lb) and best flat, which was a 6 1/2oz flounder.
Arthur Freeman had 3lb 1oz and John Foster 2lb 14 1/4oz.
In midweek the club's evening match had been won by Arthur Freeman with 1lb 8 1/2oz. Dave Hilder had 1lb 4oz and Steve Vollrath 1lb 2oz with ling, pout and eels caught.
Although the eel season at Goring is not yet in full swing, 11 members of Paupersis who fished there for six hours did find quite a few in addition to rockling and flounders.
Forty-nine fish weighing 12lb 15 1/4oz were recorded.
Roger Stanton had six fish, including an eel of 1lb 9 3/4oz in his 2lb 13 3/4oz. Geoff Cousins had flounders, rockling and eels for 1lb 11 1/2oz, Ralph Rice landed nine rockling for 1lb 9 1/2oz, Simon Brooke caught rockling and eels for 1lb 4 1/2oz and Mark Attree the same two species for 1lb 3oz. The best flat fish was Adam Ticehurst's 9 3/4oz flounder.
Only two blanked when 17 of Livewires fished Brighton and Hove beaches and 18lb 4 1/2oz was weighed in. The catch was dominated by rockling.
Winner Phil Holmes had a 1lb 12oz bass in his 2lb 6oz, Graham Willard 2lb 5 1/2oz, Dave Pullen 2lb 3 1/2oz, Peter Funnell 1lb 11oz and Steve Chatfield and Peter Hole each 1lb 8oz. Funnell's 8oz flounder won him the flat pool.
Sixteen flounders and 11 eels were caught during Shoreham's evening match on the River Adur alongside the airport.
Steve Dellar had seven fish for 246 points, John Grinstead six for 213 and Mike Perfect seven for 207. Dellar and Chris Saunders were top pair with 251 points, John Grinstead and Angel Wolfenden had 240 and Perfect and Len Grinstead 212.
Perfect and Len Grinstead hold the overall lead with six points from the pairings of John Grinstead/Wolfenden, on seven, and Dellar/Saunders, on eight.
Only rockling were caught when just one out of eight blanked when Bognor held a midweek evening match on the pier with 6lb 11oz recorded. John Coles had nine for 1lb 15oz, junior member Steve Pullen six for 1lb 6oz and Steve Middleton four for 1lb.
Meridian SAC's River Cup match at Denton Island was won by Dave Gravett with 2lb 13oz from Paul Doyle with 2lb 8oz and Gary
Hazelgrove with 1lb 15oz. Everyone managed to weigh in mainly small eels and rockling. No flat fish were recorded for a second month so this is now a double rollover.
