I have never met the man but Nick Ross is high profile in the area of crime investigation and crime prevention, and surely the very person to be asked to take part in the launch of the Brighton and Hove initiative.
The value and calibre of the presence of such people at events like the AFI launch are of considerable benefit. To suggest he shouldn't be paid a proper fee is unbelievably stupid.
You might as well say Mr Ross shouldn't be paid for his work on Crimewatch because it is in the interests of crime reduction.
I, for one, would far rather see Mr Ross paid what he was paid than the much higher sums paid to after-dinner speakers, professional footballers, TV stars and the like, the value to the community of many of whom is highly questionable.
