Attackers followed a man from a pub before attacking him and stealing his bank cards.
The two men followed their victim from the White Hart pub in Seaside, Eastbourne, at 11.45pm on Monday.
They punched him in the face, searched his pockets for valuables and forced him to go with them to the Barclay's Bank cashpoint machine, also in Seaside.
They tried to use his bank cards to withdraw cash from the machine, then ran off.
The victim was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital for treatment for an injured eye.
One of the attackers was 6ft tall and of medium build with long dark hair in a ponytail. The other was 5ft 7ins and of stocky build, of dark European appearance with shaved dark hair.
