The Asda superstore at Brighton Marina is unlikely to reopen until after the weekend while geologists continue to study the stability of neighbouring cliffs.
Asda had hoped to re-open the store today after it was closed nearly two weeks ago when hundreds of tons of rock fell from cliffs behind the store.
Nobody was injured but nearly 100 shoppers and staff had to be moved out after the fall, which blacked out electricity at the store.
Geologists called in to examine stability on the Black Rock cliffs have already submitted one report but the company is waiting for a second opinion before deciding whether to reopen the store.
A spokesman would not discuss the contents of the first report but said Asda was in talks with Brighton and Hove City Council about the cliffs.
He said: "We will keep the store closed until we have reviewed this further report and we will get this over the weekend."
He was unable to say when Asda expected to reopen the store.
Holes and cracks at the top of the cliffs have raised fears that more rock falls could be imminent. The Undercliff walk has been closed since December after an earlier rock fall.
The petrol station, away from the area at risk of repeat rock falls, is still open and Asda is running a free bus service from the Marina to its Hollingbury branch.
