Ever since Sussex University was founded more than 40 years ago, there's always been a problem in housing all the students.
It's got worse over the years with the expansion of Sussex and the creation of Brighton University.
This autumn, when the new intake of students arrives, is likely to see the most acute student housing crisis so far.
This is because many landlords are taking advantage of the property boom and selling their homes rather than putting them out to rent.
Both universities have been sensible in creating many halls of residence over the years on their campuses to help ease the pressure. They will have to build even more now.
They will also have to do everything possible to persuade landlords to let to students, otherwise there is a danger some will be homeless for many months.
