Crawley Town boss Billy Smith has vowed to make wholesale changes in the wake of Thursday's Dr Martens League cup final humiliation.

Reds slumped 4-0 in the first leg at Worcester, destroying their chance of salvaging anything from this disappointing season.

Smith said: "The team needs a big influx of new players. This is not one that is capable of winning anything.

"We were awful on Thursday and I am particularly unhappy with Luke Anderson."

Anderson was sent off after only 15 minutes for two bookings, making it an uphill struggle after Danny Wackett had headed past his own keeper to give Worcester an early lead.

"Luke is my captain," said Smith. "He got wound up and just started clumping people. In hindsight I should have substituted him. Everyone could see he was going to get sent off."

Defender Ian Payne still thinks they have a slender chance of winning the cup.

He said: "We've got some good goalscoring players and its possible for us to score four at home, but of course it's almost a lost cause.

"Worcester will come and defend. It was a disappointing performance and all the lads are unhappy with Luke."

By the time Reds face Worcester at Broadfield Stadium next Thursday they will have played another three league games.

Today Tamworth were the visitors and Crawley travel to Havant tomorrow before making a trip to Folkestone on Tuesday.

Payne added: "The fixture backlog made preparations for the final impossible. That was our fourth match in seven days."

Payne was only a substitute on Thursday but can expect a place in the team for the second leg.

Discussions have continued between Crawley and their council landlords about improving Broadfield Stadium's drainage.
