It is every sadistic, gun-happy, itchy trigger-fingered gamer's pixilated dream come true.
A new chapter of the gore-tastic Quake saga for the PlayStation 2 - and, boy, it's a good 'un.
The gameplay is ingenious in its simplicity, you have a big gun, you point it and you shoot. With weapons ranging from chainguns to grenade and rocket launchers and machine guns, there are infinite ways of blowing up your opponents.
With an engrossing single-player campaign, in which you have to escape from the hellish confines of an other-worldly prison and the intense replayability of the blood-thirsty deathmatch - in which you are charged with blowing away up to three of your mates - this is full-on carnage and I challenge anyone not to enjoy it.
Following the oft-used mantra of bigger, better, faster, more, Quake III includes 35 arenas, a massive arsenal and loads of hidden extras to ensure you will still be emptying clips for months to come.
