This was the scene when a lorry carrying tons of refuse overturned, spilling its load on to the roadside.
Firefighters pulled the driver to safety after the accident at the Great Daux roundabout on the A264 near Horsham yesterday.
Paramedics gave him first aid at the scene but he did not need hospital treatment.
Tailbacks built up on the A264 as fire crews worked with the Environment Agency to remove diesel and hydraulic oil which had leaked on to the highway.
A mechanical digger was drafted in to scoop up the rubbish into another lorry.
