I would be interested to learn what theological argument former vicar of Brighton Dominic Walker can offer to support his reported views (Argus, April 18) that hunting with dogs "cannot be pleasing to God".

He further states, "God has given us dominion, not domination, over creation", which could be construed as contradicting Genesis 9:2, wherein is God's post-flood instruction that "the fear and dread of you (mankind) be upon all the beasts of the earth".

As one of the very few official exorcists, he will also be aware that, in Mark 5:12-13, Jesus cast out a demonic horde who described themselves as "Legion" and allowed them to enter into around 2,000 swine, who were then violently drowned.

The problem is that the clergy, if they speak at all of animal welfare, couch their language in vague terms that offer little or no guidance to the layman.

In the process, churchmen and politicians are becoming indistinguishable.
