Sussex II held out for a draw in their opening championship match against Warwickshire at Moseley.

A one innings game took place after the first three days were lost to rain and Sussex, chasing a target of 219, finished on 178-7 in 48 overs.

Sussex's challenge effectively ended when former Kent all rounder Will House was fifth out at 148 for 53, Michael Yardy having earlier struck 49.

Stephen Ades resisted stubbornly to be unbeaten on 24 at stumps as Warwickshire, for whom Melvyn Betts and spinner Jamie Spiers both took 2-31, had their hopes thwarted.

The hosts posted 218-3 after being sent in. Pace bowler Billy Taylor took 1-39 from 8.1 overs, and there was also a wicket apiece for Yardy and Paul Havell.
