The injury to star man Joe Screen has thrown Eastbourne's team plans into turmoil.
Before the crash at King's Lynn on Wednes-day which will sideline Screen for the rest of the season, Eagles' boss Jon Cook believed the team were on the verge of realising their potential.
Now he admits he may be forced into making changes.
And that may not be restricted to bringing in a replacement for Screen.
With Brent Werner the only rider to have upped his average since the start of the season, Eagles had points to play with if Cook had opted to wield the axe.
For the time being, however, the Eastbourne mentor was happy to play a game of wait and see, but time is not on his side now.
Covering for the long-term absence of Screen is likely to require major surgery.
Sussex-based ex-Eagles Kelvin Tatum and Alan Mogridge will be battling for a place in the British final when they compete in tomorrow's semi-final at Newport.
Eastbourne junior Daniel Giffard scored 17 points for Rye House at Mildenhall.
Giffard, who won the Arthur Nutley Trophy last year, is currently on loan at the Conference club.
Another former Arlington youngster, Paul Lydes-Uings, scored 11 for Mildenhall.
Teenage grass-track rider Paul Knott won the opening round of this season's Nutley Trophy at Arlington.
Marc Norris, who began riding at Eastbourne and is now at Reading, scored four points in the British under-21 championship.
