Southwick manager Geoff Pook is hoping the experience in his side will guide them to the Division Two title and promotion.

Southwick are four points clear of Hailsham at the top of the table with four games remaining and the boss, who only took over earlier this season, knows they are in pole position.

Pook, younger brother of successful County League manager Alan, said: "We are in a tremendous position to win the title.

"The balance in the side is very good. We have a lot of power, pace and imagination within the team and it has worked together well."

He added: "But there are still a few games to go and when teams are playing so many close together slips can occur. That is where the experience in our side should come to the fore.

"We have Darron Gearing, Jack Dineen and Daren Newman who all have the experience of winning things and know what it is all about. We also have some good young players like Leo Day, Tom Graves, Danny Bird and Roy Pook who can learn off them, which again is where the balance is good."

Meanwhile, relegation-threatened Lancing's fate will be out of their own hands for a second season in succession.

Andy Gander's side finished their prog-ramme today against Littlehampton looking for a victory to take them on to 37 points but they know that may not be enough if either Whitehawk or East-bourne Town pick up a run of victories.

Last season, Lancing were in a similar position as they were made to sweat on an ultimately successful promotion bid from Division Two.

Gander said: "Our first priority is winning our remaining game to keep the pressure on Eastbourne Town and Whitehawk.

"We will then be reliant on the likes of Wick and Horsham YMCA to do the business against the sides below us."

He added: "It will be out of our hands but we are used to that at Lancing after last season."
