A cafe owner is calling on Worthing Borough Council to offer help in reopening the town's putting green.
The green has been off limits to pitch-and-putt fans since its closure four years ago.
Mike Major, who co-owns Ju Ju's cafe with his wife Julie, hopes to reopen it as a seafront tourist attraction for families and teenagers.
But he says the council is charging too much for the lease, which would only run for a year at a time.
Mr Major said the investment needed to get the putting green going again would be financially crippling if the lease only lasted a year.
He estimated the cost of signs, equipment, labour and maintenance would run into thousands of pounds on top of the £2,000 the council planned to charge for the lease.
He said: "What is £2,000 to the council if it gives the town an extra facility? I just think it's so important and I don't mind doing it."
Bob Cliff, of the council, said: "The council is looking at the whole of the seafront and all activities like that are welcome."
