One of the biggest problems facing health officials is finding somewhere for all their staff to park.

All four hospitals run by Brighton Health Care NHS Trust are in busy parts of the city near the centre.

Now the trust is considering the introduction of a minibus running between the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Sussex Eye Hospital, Brighton General Hospital and the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Sick Children.

It's a good idea and one which has worked well for Brighton and Hove City Council. It runs a frequent service between the two town halls and the main staff headquarters at King's House in Grand Avenue.

Nurses and doctors at Brighton hospitals face the same problem as all other workers. There simply isn't enough room for everyone who wants to drive a car and parking spaces are at a premium.

Providing more spaces would mean knocking down historic streets and building expensive car parks. It would encourage more cars into the city centre, making congestion worse.

The hospital bus will free space for staff and visitors.

Together with measures to keep out commuters, it should help ease the problem.

In a few years' time when all hospital services are on the Royal Sussex site, even that bus will not be needed any more.
