Most footpaths in Brighton and Hove south of the bypass have reopened after talks between the city council and farmers.
It means about 38 per cent of the 30 miles of footpaths within the city boundaries are in use again.
The council shut country paths because of the foot-and-mouth crisis but is keen to boost tourism and recreation.
Lead councillor for open spaces Mike Middleton said: "Where there is no veterinary need to keep paths closed, we've reopened them."
Stanmer Park remains closed, while Waterhall and Braypool are open for supervised matches.
