Is Lord Bassam a paid journalist for The Argus? Is he an elected representative of people in Brighton and Hove? Is he still running the city council?
If he's not writing long tracts about the football stadium or how brilliantly his friend the prime minister is doing for us all, he's opening something. He seems to have an opinion on everything.
The tragedy is that he is meant to be a government minister for the home department and, as such, should be working in London to actually cut crime and make home affairs policy work. Instead, he seems to be more interested in getting his name in the local newspaper.
Is it cynical of me to wonder whether this is his effort to shore up the difficult positions of his three Labour colleagues in Parliament ahead of an election? Or does he still harbour his own ambitions to run Brighton again?
Come on, M'Lord. You have an opinion on everything else, so we wait to hear from you on this.
