Jimmy Quinn savoured overdue promotion, then urged new investors to get behind the resurgent Rooks.

Needing a win to clinch promotion, Lewes made short work of a limited Ware side with a 4-0 stroll at the Dripping Pan.

They then heard rivals Corinthians Casuals had only drawn, giving the Sussex side runners-up spot and a chance to rest key players ahead of Monday's Senior Cup final.

It was a special night for boss Quinn, who arrived at the club three years ago and immediately heard chairman Steve White boast that promotion was a certainty.

White departed six months later and it has been a long and winding road to division two since then.

Quinn admitted: "There have been problems along the way but I am glad we did it with a bit of style tonight. We had a dip in form a few weeks back but we turned it around."

He added: "All these stories about the big money we are paying are far from true. I don't know what will happen next season. We have been hoping to bring in sponsors but it hasn't quite happened that way.

"If we are ever going to compete we need to get more people involved in the club. The directors here have been great, but they need a bit of help for us to progress."

Lewes were never in any danger last night and their only concern will centre on influential Paul Thomsett, who took a blow to the knee and is doubtful for the cup final.

The impressive Justin Harris was at the hub of Rooks' all important first goal on 18 minutes. He was fouled by Matt Kearney, then headed down Marc Cable's resultant free-kick for Sam Francis to fire crisply home.

Stuart Hack thumped home the second from Chris Dicker's corner 12 minutes later.

Promotion was virtually assured once Kearney had horribly blasted over Ware's only clearcut chance right on half-time.

Lewes's hardy followers gathered on the bank behind the goal and waited for a rout in th second period.

They had to be satisfied with a close range strikes from Warren Bagnall and an alert finish by substitute Richard Hudson, who latched onto Wade Norcott's weak headed back pass.
