Worthing Thunder hotshot Paul Mundy-Castle is ready to reign in the land of the giants.

The exciting 25-year-old guard has already topped the scoring charts in the NBL Conference.

Now, after piling up 32 points in the semi-final second leg thrashing of Teesside, he believes he can do it again and help Thunder see off Plymouth in tomorrow's play-off final at Wembley at 3.30 pm.

Mundy-Castle's achievements are all the more surprising when you consider he is 5ft.9in tall and learned the game in England.

Having given up a place on the bench at top flight London Leopards, he enjoyed a successful season in the second tier of the English game with Solent before transferring to Worthing.

The Nigerian said: "I left Leopards to get the chance to show I could play. It's better than sitting on the bench watching big Americans.

"English players don't get the court time. Even if the Americans are injured or sick they still play. I know I am good enough to play in the BBL but you can't train twice a day on £250 a week.

"I practise with Thunder twice a week, I'm training to be a teacher and I do coaching at schools and colleges.

"If I got a good offer from a BBL club I would consider it. It's a great job just playing basketball and doing nothing else but I enjoy teaching as well."

Mundy-Castle's size means he takes a battering from the big men beneath the basket. His answer has been to hone his free throw shooting to the extent that he is the most deadly marksman from the line in his league.

In the semi-final alone, he sank 17 of 19 free throw attempts.

He said: "I love going against the big fellas. It's great showing basketball isn't just a game for people who are abnormally tall.

"I get fouled a lot so I have learned to make free throws"

Plenty of talent spotters will be present at Wembley, including Bears owner Romek Kriwald, who admits he would love to see Thunder lift the trophy.

Mundy-Castle believes they will. He said: We need to win at Wembley. We have beaten Plymouth three times this season and we want to prove we are the best team in the Conference."
