Visiting Lewes for the first time since the devastating floods, I could not help feeling apprehensive as to what I might find. I felt encouraged when I saw a sign proclaiming "business as usual" and so, indeed, it was.
This beautiful ancient town was sparkling in the afternoon sunshine and I have never seen it looking so good.
Search as I might, the only trace I could find that all had not been well was a few sandbags outside St Thomas-a-Becket in Cliffe High Street, the worst-hit area.
Behind the scenes, many people must still be suffering the terrible after-effects of the flooding and I could not resist the temptation to slip into the church for a few moments of thought for all who have been affected. Lewes is lovely and I cannot wait to get back there, so great are its charms.
