An expert in business innovation, who has spent five years compiling a checking system for company success, is planning to share it.
Dr David Francis, deputy head of the Centre for Research in Innovation Management (CENTRIM) at the University of Brighton, has travelled the world to discover the innovation secrets of more than 100 organisations and found what characteristics they have in common.
He went to the Far East, Middle East, South America and the United States in the course of his study.
He visited organisations varying from the New York Police Department and Hew-lett Packard to small enterprises.
He says innovative ideas do not have to be just for financial gain. They could benefit the environment and the public.
"Many of the organisations we looked at were identified by the Department of Trade and Industry as being particularly innovative.
"We asked the organisations: 'How do you operate? What do you do?' and we interviewed people from all parts of the organisation."
The results yielded an Innovation Capability Audit in the form of a questionnaire, which leads to a practical diagnosis.
Dr Francis said: "Those who join the Master Class will go away with a clear specification of what they need to do to improve their organisation's ability to find and exploit great ideas.
"If there was something wrong with your body you would go to a doctor for a cure but if there was something wrong with your business getting a diagnosis would not be easy, which is why the master class has been arranged."
The master class on innovation takes place on May 15 at the university. Reservations should be made by May 10. For information call Pauline Nissen on 01273 642339.
