Rottingdean proved it was back in business when its Renaissance Weekend attracted hundreds of visitors.
It was a weekend of fun and community events during the bank holiday to celebrate the village's rebirth after weeks of disruption from roadworks.
Shops and pubs were decked out in balloons and many mounted window displays for the event.
The weekend began with a fireworks display which followed a late-night shopping event in the High Street which had been closed to traffic for the evening.
New red brick pavements have been laid and roads have been surfaced following the relaying of a gas main, which closed the High Street for two months at the beginning of the year.
Instead of giving compensation to shops and businesses for loss of trade, Transco, which carried out the work, gave financial assistance to the weekend, organised by the Rottingdean Trade Business and Professional Association.
Saturday was Grown Ups Day with a table-top fair and an antiques fair in the village hall, followed by a race night organised by the local Lions.
Sunday was a family sports day including a tug of war with teams from four of the village pubs.
Yesterday was Children's Day, which included a parade on the theme of Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book and a treasure hunt.
St Margaret's Fayre around the village's church, included a marionettes' performance and a toy fair in the village hall.
Proceeds from the weekend went towards the restoration of St Margaret's Church.
