A comment on Voice Of The Argus "Sorting out the parking tangle" (Argus, April 30).
The lesson that needs to be learnt by Brighton and Hove City Council and some commentators is that, in each of the areas targeted for paid parking schemes, there are different requirements.
There are local shops and small businesses, residents and large businesses, commuters and local residents. In the area in which I live, we are plagued by incoming commuter cars.
In the evening and at weekends there is little contention for space. So why should residents pay for commuters?
The key points are to discourage commuter parking, encourage cheap local transport, ensure large companies arrange car pooling and make large firms and commuters pay for parking, not residents. They were residents before most of these companies were given permission to open up.
Fortunately, in our area, the council took notice of our views but it has not addressed the above issues and still chooses to foist schemes on residents - the easy way out.
