Harry Steer is part of a political dynasty that has provided councillors from three generations.
His elevation to become Mayor of Brighton and Hove is a tribute to the whole family as well as to him.
His stepmother, Helen, was a well-loved member of Brighton Borough Council who raised thousands of pounds for cancer care. His son, Francis, was the youngest member of Hove Borough Council.
Harry will be a good mayor. He's a highly-experienced councillor who will be a unifying influence as he has lived and worked in all parts of the city.
As a teacher he will also be able to call the often unruly council to order.
It's also farewell to Andy Durr who was a good ambassador for Brighton and Hove during his year as mayor.
He had tough times when he fell seriously ill last autumn. But he pulled through thanks to the efforts of his doctors and council staff to complete the term with his customary good humour.
