We all know what most people think of Whitehawk and Moulsecoomb in Brighton.
Many people who know very little about the people and what it is like to live on these estates, which can be found all over the country, join the bandwagon and make negative comments without bothering to discover the truth.
Of course there are negative aspects to the areas, the residents themselves would not deny this, but not all the people are bad and not all aspects of the areas are bad.
The New Deal for Communities scheme plans to improve these places by injecting £47.2 million during the next ten years.
But it's not just a case of throwing money at a problem.
It is a well thought out way of enabling the residents themselves to help improve their areas by rebuilding a community spirit which has slowly disappeared from modern society.
But the miracle of a better society for these people will take time to create but we must remember these places did not fall into decline overnight, that too was a gradual process.
And even if we do not live in these places, we have a responsibility to improve them and their reputations as they are part of the city of Brighton and Hove and not a separate entity.
