A retired head teacher was today being sworn in as Eastbourne's new mayor.
David Stevens, 72, was due to be sworn into office as mayor of Eastbourne at the Town Hall at noon.
Mr Stevens, president of Eastbourne Saffrons Sports Club, takes over from fellow Conservative Michael Tunwell. Councillor Margo Smith is to become his deputy.
More than 200 people attended a reception at the Winter Garden in Eastbourne to celebrate Coun Tunwell's year in office. Mr Stevens said: "I am thoroughly looking forward to being mayor."
