An elderly Worthing woman died after a car in which she was a passenger crashed into a brick wall.
The 73-year-old victim, from Worthing, was in the front seat of a Renault Clio driven by her 70-year-old husband.
He is in St Richard's Hospital at Chichester with injuries described today as serious.
The accident happened yesterday just after 4pm on the A286 between Lavant and Midhurst.
Police say the red Clio hit a brick wall close to the Hunters Inn pub.
They say the dead woman's identity will not be revealed until her relatives have been informed.
