After a mini-break, Crawley Angling Society members had their tackle out of storage for the opening fixture at Milton Mount.
With only 13 swims at the venue several members were disappointed and will have to wait until the second competition on May 27.
Don Vallance, a long time Crawley member but better known for his exploits in the Copthorne club, proved he had not lost his touch during the season's interlude.
Using a waggler and baited with red maggot he spent the five hours mainly catching rudd and was a clear winner on 12lb 4oz.
Karl King was on a new swim and using a pole to the lillypads on pellets, he had 9lb 14oz of carp.
Chris Siddal had two fruitless hours chasing carp but then switched to the waggler and had 9lb 8oz of mainly rudd.
Jack Sorrell was fourth with 6lb of carp and rudd taken using corn on the waggler.
The next match will be the first round of the Home Championship at New Pond in Parish Lane at Pease Pottage and with £5,000 having been spent by the society on re-stocking with tench, crucians and carp, members are keen to enjoy the fruits of their investment.
Six pout and a 9oz flounder made Mike Knight winner of the four hour Rye club match at Dengemarsh.
Dick Penny had five pout (best 8oz) for 1lb 6oz, Doug Bannister 11oz and junior member Craig Woods 8oz.
Twelve of East Preston Royal British Legion spent five hours on their local beach and seven of them were successful.
Alan Smith had two eels (best 2lb 4oz) for a winning weight of 3lb 11oz, Malcolm Heater had an eel of 2lb 5oz dominate his 2lb 6oz and Steve Clear had a 10oz flounder in his 1lb 3oz. The best flounder was 14oz by Darren Smith.
Pout dominated the Bognor Surfcasters match at Bracklesham Bay over five hours starting at 7pm.
Mike Kempster was top of the 14 with a pollack of 12oz plus 28 pout for 7lb 11oz, while Peter Hide had 22 pout for 6lb 7oz, Rob Clinton a flounder of 6oz plus 16 pout for 4lb 11oz and Barry Steel one rockling and eight pout for 3lb 4oz.
The next match is May 27 from Aldwick to Dark Lane in Bognor and on June 24 Surfcasters have an open at Pagham.
This will have 70 pegs and will be for Penn Points. The fee of £12 includes two pools and fishing will be from 10.30am-4.30pm. Ring Steve Middleton on 01243 267791 (evenings) if you want to book a peg.
Bing Havard had his first win in a Pevensey Bay Aqua club match with a single eel of 1lb 1,oz.
Only 13 out of the 39 who fished the three hour midweek evening tide match caught fish.
Tied in second place were husband and wife David and Wendy Clements each with two pout and each on 12oz. Ian Hopper was fourth with two pout on his last pull in for 8oz.
The match was the last round of the Spring Cup series in which the best three results count and Hopper won on 107 points with Paul Weller, Paul King and Brian Meades joint second on 100.
Aqua club have a charity open on May 27 fishing from noon for four hours and anyone interested in competing should turn up on the day with the fee £4 and booking-in at the Aqua club from 10am.
