The shape of a human face has suddenly appeared in grass in central Brighton.
Residents woke to find the strange, half-smiling visage had appeared on the grassy bank in Ashton Rise, near St Peter's Church.
As yet, no one has claimed responsibility for burning and painting the strange face into the grass.
Maria Morrow, 22, of Belgrave Street, Brighton, said: "It just suddenly appeared overnight.
"It looks very eerie and weird. It is instantly recognisable as a face and is causing quite a bit of comment.
"Nobody seems to know how or why it appeared but it livens up what is really an ordinary grass bank"
