A paramedic escaped injury after his car was involved in a crash as he answered an emergency call.
His Vauxhall Vectra was in collision with a Vauxhall Astra at the busy Thomas A'Becket crossroads in Worthing.
The Vectra, which had its sirens going at the time, was badly damaged in the crash at 3.50pm on Saturday.
The male driver of the J-registered Astra was also uninjured.
Neither driver has been named by Sussex Police, who operate data protection guidelines.
The road was blocked for 30 minutes following the crash.
