I was proud to read about the Royal Sussex Regiment (Argus, May 11).
I was commissioned into the regiment in the early Forties, finishing in 1946 as a Captain.
I would have been prouder still had I seen a reference to the 9th Battalion or, at least, to Burma.
I fought with the battalion, under Sino-US control and led by the US five-star general "Vinegar" Joe Stilwell, from July 1944 in Myitkyinar to July 1945 in Mandalay, after which we moved to Malaya. I am now 80.
