Albion target Geoff Pitcher is good enough for the First Division, according to a former Seagull and current team-mate.
Derek Allan played with Pitcher this season in the Kingstonian side which reached the fourth round of the FA Cup before they were relegated from the Nationwide Conference.
Allan believes the 25-year-old midfielder is equipped to make the step back up to the pro game after spells earlier in his career with Millwall, Watford and Colchester.
Albion boss Micky Adams confirmed to the Argus yesterday that he has been interested in Pitcher for some time.
Ex-Albion stopper Allan said: "Geoff is a top quality player who I think should even play in the First Division. That's how highly I rate him.
"He has played semi pro for England and he wouldn't look out of place in the Second Division that's for sure.
"He could certainly hold his own at Brighton and the fans would love him if he does go there.
"He is in the Jeff Minton mould, but he has probably got a little bit more to offer than Jeff because he goes past people consistently."
Portsmouth have also reportedly expressed an interest in Pitcher and Kingstonian's £100,000 asking price could be off-putting for Albion.
"I am sure he will go but who to is another story," added Allan. "He only lives in Croydon, so Brighton would be handy for him, but it depends on who chucks in enough money.
"I think he has got another year left, so they would have to pay for him."
