Contractors are working round the clock to complete a seafront children's attraction in Brighton in time for bank holiday weekend.
The pirate-themed padding pool and playground near the West Pier in Brighton was supposed to open in time for the May Day holiday.
Scores of children were disappointed when the opening was postponed at the last moment because of problems caused mainly by bad weather.
But the pool, part of a new £1 million regeneration project west of the pier, is now almost ready.
A council spokeswoman said: "Everyone is pulling out all the stops to make sure the pool opens this weekend.
"The contractors are still busy on site making up for lost time caused by weeks of bad weather earlier this year and are working hard to complete it.
"We will not know for certain until Friday afternoon whether the pool will definitely be ready to open, but we are doing all we can to ensure it will be.
"We know children are looking forward to trying out the new pool and we are really grateful to everyone for being so patient."
An official opening ceremony will be held later when the project is well established.
The attraction will be free and includes a play area. It will replace the existing 65-year old concrete pool, which will make way for the West Pier restoration.
Themed on pirates and tropical seas, the new playground will cover a 70-metre stretch from Alfresco restaurant to the bandstand.
