Charter 88, the campaign to "unlock democracy", has organised a meeting in Brighton featuring local parliamentary candidates as part of its General Election campaign.

The evening is designed to give the public the opportunity to quiz candidates and raise issues.

Organiser Kevin Green said: "We have invited the candidates from all the parties contesting the election to openly debate the need to unlock our democracy and to answer questions from the public."

Forming part of a larger series of meetings up and down the country, the events are being hailed by the pressure group as one of the most important public meetings in the constituencies.

Mr Green said: "We encourage everyone who has a view on politics, politicians and the future of our democracy to come along and share it with the candidates and their fellow electors."

The meeting is on Tuesday at the Brighthelm Centre, North Road, at 8pm.
