Comedian Mark Steel will speak at an election rally for the Socialist Alliance next week.
He is also a broadcaster and a columnist for the Independent newspaper.
He stood for the alliance in last year's Greater London Authority elections.
Also speaking at the rally to support Hove candidate Andy Richards will be Liz Davies, who was a member of the Labour Party's national executive committee between 1998 and 2000. She left the party and joined the alliance.
Other speakers at the rally in The Old Market in Upper Market Street, Hove, on Wednesday at 7.30pm, include Sara Turnbull from the University of Sussex students' union and Geri Payne, organiser of the Parents for Palmeira Campaign, who is standing for the alliance in the Goldsmid council by-election.
