I was interested in the article by Adam Trimingham (Argus, May17) on his cycle trip to Kent on a Sunday.
It reminded me of a cycle ride I and a few friends made in 1936, when I was 16. From Brighton, we rode through the night, arriving in Canterbury on
Sunday morning, where we had breakfast. We then returned via a different route to have tea at Turners Hill, thence on to Brighton.
The total distance was 169 miles and we finished as fresh as ever - more so, I expect, than Adam did. No trains for us in those days.
