Mathew Ford-Dunn claimed a highly pleasing fourth place in the latest round of the MRO National 125 Championship.
Ford-Dunn, from Rustington, has stepped down from the British championship this year to do the MRO series, which is seen as the future of the sport.
At Castle Coombe last weekend, the 27-year-old finished fourth and probably would have been higher but for an engine problem which slowed him down over the last five laps.
But Ford-Dunn was delighted.
He said: "There is still work to do but I have finally got the engine going well and we are making steady development each time we go out. I can see it getting better and better."
Ford-Dunn returns to action in the MRO Championship at Thruxton next weekend.
