More than 2,000 people made the most of the sunny weather at Staplefield's village fun day yesterday.
The event was a big success despite missing one of its main attractions, an armoured personnel carrier, which suffered gearbox failure.
Other crowd-pleasers included fire engine rides, off-road buggy driving and displays of baton twirling and maypole dancing.
The Ministry of Defence also sent along an Army truck in place of the armoured transporter.
Organiser Elizabeth Malley said: "It was really hot and everybody was out watching the five-a-side football, with those not wearing any sunscreen getting pink.
"We had lots of children and the children's running races were very popular."
