Roger French, of Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company, is clearly pleased with his "priority seating" for pushchairs.
However, this sends out the wrong signal because, as is so often the case, young mums take up two or three seats (sometimes more) and assume the priority is for them and their offspring.
In earlier days, a pushchair had to be stowed under the stairs and any child who did not have a ticket had to be carried on the mother's lap.
Some, of course, will say we have moved on since those days. Well, perhaps we have if it means, when the bus is full, elderly and infirm have to stand while the able-bodied sit.
I am in my 70s and have found myself giving up my seat to someone less agile than myself. I hope Mr French is comfortable with this arrangement.
