A survey by the GSM (Global System for Mobile Comm-unications) Association shows the text message boom is not slowing down.
The association predicts that 200 billion text messages will be sent around the world this year. In just two years, the number of messages each month has grown from one billion to more than 16 billion.
Rob Conway, the chief executive of the GSM Association, said: "The growth demonstrates text messaging is not a passing trend."
