Sussex rider Marina Bloom of Crawley Wheelers and Hampshire's Ralph Daddswell of Antelope set a London to Portsmouth and back tandem tricycle record at the weekend.
To establish a record the Road Record's Association set them a target time of 7hr.45min for the gruelling 146 miles. They then had to arrange for a back-up team of observers, helpers and course marshalls.
They started from Kingston at 4am and covered the leg to Hyde Park Corner and back first to avoid the traffic in London, then continued against the strong headwind to Portsmouth.
Marina, who lives in Horsham, said "We were eight minutes behind our own schedule at the Portsmouth turn. We made it up going back to Kingston and established a record of 6hr 34min. We were pleased with our time but I am feeling pretty shattered right now."
Brighton Mitre's Stuart Fahey fininshed third in the Sussex BCF's senior circuit race at Hove Park after spending most of the 35km race in a three-man breakaway group.
Fahey joined Bryan Taylor (Bournemouth Arrow) and Sam Gardner (Evans RT, London) in an attack on lap seven of the 35-lap race. The trio lapped most of the field but Fahey fell back with five laps to go and Taylor won the final sprint by a length from Gardner.
Fahey held on to third place ahead of Tom Bradbury (Sutton CC), Darren Pembroke (Blazing Saddles, Rustington) and Hastings rider Steve Geran (VC Bayeux).
The honours were evenly shared at the third Sussex Track League meeting at Preston Park. Junior rider Sean McClelland (VC Londres), from Upper Beeding, took on the senior riders and won the 10-lap points race, while Max Norrell (Eastbourne Rovers) won the 650m handicap.
Martin Penfold (Sussex Nomads) won the Unknown Distance event and Rob Fuller (Bikeshop) stormed home first in the eight-lap scratch race.
The Track League has been awarded a £4,500 grant from Sport England. The money will be used to buy a secure cabin to store bikes and equipment at the track.
