A town will get its open-air swimming pool back next week, two years after it was closed as part of council cuts.
But it could still be some time before the people of Arundel and tourists can again take the plunge.
Final details of a peppercorn rent deal is expected to be approved by Arun District Council next week.
It will mean that the pool is transferred to Arundel's town council which will advertise it as part of a development package to attract private investment.
The council has not yet revealed what proposals it will be looking for from developers but keeping the pool will be essential.
A development scheme for the complex could feature a "swim-through" allowing part of the pool to be enclosed and part in the open air to help guarantee income during bad weather.
Town clerk Trevor Leggo said: "It is an incredibly sensitive site with a world famous backdrop so any scheme will have to be appropriate to the setting."
The pool, close to Arundel Castle and the River Arun, needs an estimated £280,000 worth of repairs before it can be used.
