Albion fans will remember one particular game at Cambridge United on April 19, 1997.
Robbie Reinelt's goal earned the Seagulls a 1-1 draw and ended a sequence of five away defeats.
The point proved vital as Albion went to Hereford a couple of weeks later needing only a draw to avoid relegation from the Football League, which they duly achieved.
There have been plenty of meetings between the sides in recent years and another memorable game came on October 1998 when Rod Thomas scored on his debut to secure Albion a 3-2 victory and to signal the start of a fine run under Brian Horton.
Jeff Minton and Derek Allan were the other scorers that evening in front of a crowd of 4,062.
Several players have played for both clubs, most notably Alan Biley.
The one-time Cambridge record goalscorer made 40 appearances and scored nine goals for Albion in the 1985-86 season.
Jamie Campbell was one of Micky Adams' first signings, joining from Cambridge in the summer of 1999. However, the move did not work out as Campbell failed to produce the form he had shown at the Abbey Stadium and moved to Exeter City after just one season at Withdean.
Despite scoring an own goal against Albion last season, Campbell has done well at Exeter and was player-of-the-season last year.
Sammy Morgan played for Cambridge in the club's early League history and also turned out for Albion, while other names to appear for both include Tony Towner, Mark Farrington, Paul Clark and Bradley Wosahlo.
