Two lifeboats were called to rescue four people who had become trapped by a high tide.
The Eastbourne inshore and offshore lifeboats were alerted by the Dover coastguard at about 6.35pm yesterday.
The coastguard received a message from men working on the Eastbourne lighthouse saying they could see two men and two women cut off by the tide at the foot of the cliffs near Beachy Head.
The tourists, from Holland, had left their car at Beachy Head and walked to Birling Gap and then went down to the beach to walk around the lighthouse.
None of those rescued needed medical help.
