I visited Brighton and Preston Cemetery recently to tidy and place some flowers on my mother's grave. I was absolutely appalled at the state the cemetery is in. The grass was overgrown, the bins were overflowing and in one case had tipped over with the contents over the road and there were chalk drawings on the road where children had been playing.
I visit the cemetery quite often and I actually drove past my mother's grave because the grass was so high you could not see the headstones. I have noticed the deterioration in the way it is being kept over the past year but this had to be seen to be believed. I also went to the Peacehaven part of the cemetery where my mother-in-law's ashes were scattered and, although the grass had been cut, it had been left and was brown and dry. There were grass cuttings over the path and the memorial stone where the plaques are was covered in bird droppings and needed thoroughly cleaning.
It is an utter disgrace this resting place has been left to deteriorate so badly and is an insult to the memory of the people who have been laid to rest and to their families, so many of whom try to look after their loved ones' graves.
