Staff at an off-licence chased off a raider who threatened them with a knife.
The suspect went into the Victoria Wines store in Felpham Road, Bognor, just before 10pm on Friday.
He drew a knife, threatened staff and demanded they hand over cash from the till.
Police said they refused and one worker struggled with the raider.
A spokesman said: "There was quite a violent struggle but none of the staff was hurt.
"The intruder fled from the shop when it became clear staff were not going to hand over any money."
