It was very satisfying to read Glen Ferris's article (Ahead, May 30) on the way Hollywood constantly re-writes history to favour the Americans over their British allies even to the extent of falsification, as in the films Titanic, U-571, The Patriot and Saving Private Ryan.
Well, Glen, here is another to add to your list - Nuremberg, screened recently by Channel 4.
In this docu-drama, based on Joseph E Persico's gripping book on the trials of the Nazi war criminals, we see Mr Robert Jackson (the chief prosecutor) make a hash of his first cross-examination of Hermann Goering (true) and, in his second attempt, finally pinning down his adversary (untrue).
In fact, as Mr Persico's book makes clear, Jackson, after a good start, "let him get away" (p283).
It was the British prosecutor Sir David Maxwell-Fyfe who finally broke the Reichsmarschall with a brilliant display of cross-examinational skills - so much so the legal teams present clustered round him with their congratulations.
Still, Alec Baldwin both produced and played the starring role as Justice Jackson, so the American had to be the hero - but it does get so tiresome.
