An elderly woman from East Sussex has died after being involved in a head-on car smash.
She was a passenger in a Volkswagen Polo travelling north on the A22 at Nutfield, near Maresfield, when it was in collision with a Ford Mondeo at 12.15pm on Friday.
A third vehicle, a Vauxhall estate car being used as a private hire taxi, then ran into the back of the Polo.
The elderly Polo passenger, from Uckfield, suffered internal injuries. She was taken to hospital but later died.
Two more people were taken to hospital with less serious injuries, including the driver of the Polo, a 72 year-old man, who suffered bruising to his hands and face.
The driver of the Ford Mondeo, a 41 year-old Uckfield woman, suffered head and neck injuries.
Police have not yet named the dead woman.
Witnesses are asked to contact PC Ship at Haywards Heath traffic police on 0845 6070999.
