Bucking broncos and medieval re-enactments were among the attractions at Burgess Hill's carnival day.

About 30 walking groups, floats and decorated vehicles took part in the parade through the town.

The streets were lined with onlookers for the procession, which was accompanied by marching bands and majorettes.

The parade on Saturday, June 2, ended at St John's Park in the early afternoon and a fun day was held.

Katie Cox, a carnival organiser, said: "It went brilliantly. The streets were lined when the parade came through the town and the sun did come out at one point.

"During the afternoon in the park there were 30 organisations with stalls there and attractions like a bucking bronco simulator. We also had a couple of medieval groups, including Swords of Albion, which is local, and a Robin Hood group from Hassocks way."

A popular twice-weekly market was given a new home at the weekend.

Burgess Hill's open-air market was relaunched in the Church Road car park in the town centre.

It moved the short distance from Cyprus Road, its home for 11 years, to a new spot behind Lloyds TSB Bank.

Mid Sussex councillor Peter Martin said: "This is a major step forward for Burgess Hill."
