Horsham remain top of the Sussex League after a wet weekend which saw no game in either division reach a conclusion.

The lead at the top is six points over Hastings, who are 54 points clear of third placed Crowborough.

Crowborough's clash with Hastings at the Wolfe Recreation Ground on Saturday was abandoned with the visitors having made 168-4 from 43 overs.

Saeed Anwar scored 57 for Hastings, James Chaplin added an unbeaten 54 and George Campbell hit 35 before being bowled by Carl Shankland, one of two wickets for him.

Skipper Andy Cornford took the important wicket of John Snashall and Richard Jackson was Borough's other bowler to strike.

There were two breaks for the rain before the match was finally abandoned and Borough were pleased with their bowling efforts, particularly after the late withdrawals of seamer Naeem Akhtar and Sher Khan.

Akhtar was missing through illness which saw him spend the weekend in hospital.

The result meant both sides had to settle for eight points each.

The scramble for points at the bottom remains as big an issue as the battle at the top and one game that all but produced a result was between Haywards Heath and Three Bridges.

Three Bridges batted first and tumbled to 75-5 despite 40 from Tom Mole. Rain intervened with Danny Alderman (28) trying to rebuild the innings and when play resumed the visitors took their total to 164 all out.

For Heath, skipper Hugo Southwell took 5-66 in 19 overs and Aussie Tim Cruickshank produced his best figures for the club so far with 5-46.

An amazing start to their innings then saw Haywards Heath collapse to 7-4 from just 13 balls and even a slight recovery to 66-7 made the visitors favourites.

However, an unfinished eighth wicket stand of 84 took them to 150-7, just 15 short of victory before the rain became too heavy and the game was abandoned.

Southwell led from the front to hit 86 not out in his last game before a six week trip to Mexico, while Steve Dunkley made 26 not out. For Bridges, Phil Stanbridge took 4-37 and Nick Creed 3-46.

Brighton and Hove batted with real purpose at home to Eastbourne and were well and truly in the driving seat when rain ended proceedings.

A total of 262-6 declared owed much to 77 not out from skipper Ray Bieber, 66 from Neil Robinson and 40 from Richard Luker.

Richard Halsall, with 4-105 in a rare appearance, was the pick of the visitors' bowling.

Eastbourne had reached 39-5 and were in real trouble when the rain finally ended play.

Another side to complete their innings was Worthing who made 214 all out at home to leaders Horsham. In that total Tim Dunn made 40, Andy Stillwell 39, Andy Lutwyche 38 and Ben Cameron 38.

Of the Horsham bowlers, Mark Nash took 4-12 and David Hussey 2-12. Horsham had reached 19 without loss when play was called off.

East Grinstead were frustrated in their battle to move off the bottom of the table in their home game with Chichester.

The home side were looking in control at 181-4 from 46 overs when proceeding ended. In that total Neil Turk made 68 while Stuart Simmonds and Pete Mills each hit 29 not out in an unfinished fifth wicket stand.

For Chichester skipper Nick Dyer took 3-57 with his off-spin.
