An elderly woman seriously injured in a crash was left lying in the road.

The driver and passenger, believed to be in a 3-Series Volvo, got out after their car collided with the 87-year-old as she crossed Eastern Road, Brighton, at 5.20pm on Saturday.

But they quickly got back into the vehicle and drove off, leaving the pensioner, who had suffered severe leg, chest and shoulder injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened after the woman left the Lidl store and attempted to cross the road.
